The Outskirts lie beyond the City's 26 Districts, connecting to District 21 through the Great Lake's far reaches. They are incredibly dangerous -- even the most experienced Fixers avoid them. Demian is implied to have explored them and survived, which speaks to his extraordinary abilities. Demian characterizes the Outskirts as a place of 'love and freedom' compared to the City's oppressive structure, though this romantic view likely understates the mortal danger. The nature of the Outskirts, what lives there, and why they are so dangerous remains one of the City's deepest mysteries.
A region beyond the City that defies normal description. The Outskirts are barren, treacherous, and governed by rules that do not apply within the City.
