Lilo made Scrump herself and talks to her like a real person. She positions Scrump at the table for meals, tells her about her day, and includes her in Elvis listening sessions. To anyone else, Scrump is an ugly homemade doll. To Lilo, Scrump is proof that you don't need to be perfect or store-bought to be loved. Scrump is the franchise's quietest metaphor: a thing that shouldn't work, that doesn't look right, that nobody else would choose — held together by love and thread. Just like the ʻohana.
Small, misshapen rag doll with button eyes (one bigger than the other), a stitched mouth, red yarn hair sticking up at odd angles, and a green body made from a sewing pattern that went deliberately wrong. One arm is shorter than the other. She looks like she was made by a child who didn't have the right materials but refused to let that stop her.
