David is the person everyone needs but nobody deserves. He likes Nani. He knows Nani likes him. He also knows Nani is drowning in responsibility and the absolute last thing she needs is relationship pressure. So he just... shows up. With surfboards. With pizza. With offers to watch Lilo. With no expectations. He treats Lilo like a little sister and plays with her without condescension. He is one of only four humans who knows about the aliens and experiments, and his response was essentially 'cool, want to go surfing?' He performs fire dancing at the luau for tourists and brings the same enthusiasm to everything. He is not boring. He is profoundly good. The franchise uses him to show what healthy masculinity looks like without ever making a speech about it.
