Mi-yeong Ryu

Character from KPop Demon Hunters by Maggie Kang & Chris Appelhans

Rumi's mother — a demon hunter of the Sunlight Sisters who fell in love with a demon, bore a half-demon daughter, and died fighting the creatures her lover once served.

Mi-yeong is a ghost who shapes the living. Everything Rumi fears about herself — the demon blood, the patterns, the question of whether she belongs — traces back to Mi-yeong's choice to love a demon and Mi-yeong's death fighting them. She represents the possibility that love across enemy lines is real but costs everything. In life, she was a formidable hunter and Celine's partner in the previous generation of Sunlight Sisters. Her decision to have a child with a demon fractured that partnership and left Celine carrying both grief and judgment that she passed down to Rumi.

Appearance

Seen only in memory and flashback. A fierce-looking woman with the build and bearing of a warrior. Strong facial features that Rumi inherited, along with eyes that could shift between tenderness and lethal focus. Carried her weapons like extensions of her body.
