Planet Popstar

Location from Kirby by HAL Laboratory / Nintendo

A star-shaped planet of pastoral beauty and impossible cosmic significance — home to Kirby, Dream Land, and more eldritch incidents per capita than anywhere in the galaxy.

Popstar is the Kirby franchise's central world — a place where the weather is usually nice, the food is abundant, and the population is friendly. It FEELS like a world designed for a children's game, and that's what makes it work: the contrast between Popstar's gentle surface and the cosmic horrors that keep targeting it is the franchise's entire thesis. Something about Popstar attracts threats. Dark Matter has invaded it multiple times. Marx manipulated its sun and moon. The Haltmann Works Company tried to mechanize it. Void Termina was summoned near it. Either Popstar is cosmically unlucky, or there's something about the planet — maybe something about its most famous resident — that draws these forces like a magnet. Day-to-day life on Popstar is idyllic. Waddle Dees wander, Dedede schemes, food grows everywhere, and the biggest problem is usually that someone stole someone else's cake. Until the sky cracks open again.

Appearance

A yellow, star-shaped planet visible from space, with green continents, blue oceans, and white clouds. From orbit it looks like a child's drawing of a star — five points, cheerful colors, impossibly cute. The surface is a patchwork of biomes: sunny meadows, snow-capped mountains, tropical islands, volcanic regions, and dense forests. Multiple moons orbit it. There's no visible indication from space that this planet regularly hosts universe-ending threats.
