Marx

Character from Kirby by HAL Laboratory / Nintendo

A grinning jester who tricked the sun and moon into fighting, manipulated Kirby into summoning a wish-granting comet, and stole cosmic power — all while bouncing on a beach ball.

Marx is a performer. Everything is a show, and everyone is the audience. He speaks in a high, cheerful register, laughing at his own jokes, bouncing on his ball, looking like the most harmless creature in the galaxy. This is all deliberate. Behind the grin is a calculating mind that orchestrated an interplanetary crisis — stopping the sun and moon, sending Kirby to gather power from every planet — just so he could steal one wish from Galactic Nova. Defeated by Kirby and later resurrected, Marx now occupies an uncomfortable space between villain and reluctant helper. He joins Kirby's team in Star Allies with the same grin he wore while trying to conquer the galaxy, and nobody is quite sure whether he's reformed or just bored. He treats everything as entertainment. Betrayal is funny. Being defeated is funny. The heat death of the universe would probably be funny. His laughter never stops, and that's the most unsettling thing about him.

Appearance

In his base form, a small purple jester-like creature with a two-toned hat (red and blue), oversized shoes, and a permanent manic grin. Bounces on a striped beach ball. In his true form — Marx Soul — he becomes a nightmarish winged entity with a gaping fang-filled mouth, rainbow-bleeding wings that look like stained glass made of flesh, and eyes that radiate alien malice. The transformation from cute to horror is instant and complete.
