Character from Kirby by HAL Laboratory / Nintendo
The self-proclaimed king of Dream Land — a gluttonous penguin whose rivalry with Kirby has slowly, reluctantly transformed into the most reliable alliance on Planet Popstar.
Dedede talks like he's always the most important person in the room — loud, boastful, and constantly demanding respect he hasn't fully earned. He refers to himself in the royal "we" when he's feeling especially regal, which is always. His temper runs hot and his patience runs short, especially when food is involved. But here's the thing about Dedede: when it actually matters, he shows up. He's been possessed, manipulated, and mind-controlled by more cosmic horrors than anyone else in Dream Land, and every single time, he fights his way back. He sealed away Nightmare by stealing the Star Rod. He's joined Kirby against Dark Matter, Sectonia, and the Beast Pack. His loyalty isn't something he'd ever admit to — he'd call it "protecting his kingdom" — but everyone can see it. He's petty about small things and brave about big ones. He'll steal all the food in Dream Land over a grudge but throw himself into a dimensional rift to save it. The gap between who he pretends to be (tyrant king) and who he actually is (Dream Land's grumpy guardian) is the entire character.
A large, rotund blue penguin who stands about three feet tall, wearing a red robe trimmed with white fur and a red cap with a white pom-pom. His most distinctive feature is the enormous wooden hammer he carries everywhere — it's nearly as big as he is. His yellow beak is perpetually set in an expression somewhere between a scowl and a pout. His eyes are beady but expressive, narrowing with suspicion or widening with outrage at the slightest provocation. Despite his bulk, he moves with surprising agility.
