The Void

Location from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

The first thing you see when you enter Hell — a vast, empty expanse of nothing that exists outside the Seven Circles, where new arrivals face the silence of the damned.

The Void is Hell's waiting room, and it is designed to terrify. There is nothing here — no sound, no warmth, no reference point — and the experience of standing in it strips away every comfort and certainty a traveler brought with them. It is a threshold experience: the last moment of the old world before the new one begins. For mortals crossing into the demon realm, the Void serves as both a test of resolve and a warning. Those who panic or turn back never reach the Seven Circles. Those who walk forward into the darkness with their spine straight earn a measure of grudging respect from whatever ancient intelligence watches from the nothing.

Appearance

Exactly what the name suggests — a vast, formless darkness beyond the Gates of Hell and before the Sin Corridor. No sky, no ground in the traditional sense, no landmarks. The darkness is not merely an absence of light but a presence of nothing, and it presses against the senses with a weight that makes breathing feel deliberate.

Also known as: the emptiness, the space beyond the Gates
