House Wrath

Location from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

The domain of the Prince of War — a fortress built for battle that Emilia slowly transforms from a stronghold into something that might, reluctantly, be called a home.

House Wrath smells like forge-smoke, cold stone, and the ghost of mint that follows its prince everywhere. The atmosphere is martial but not oppressive — this is a court that respects competence above all else, where rank is earned through skill rather than inherited through bloodline. The soldiers and servants move with purposeful efficiency, and there's a camaraderie among Wrath's people that the other courts lack. As Emilia's presence changes the household, small transformations appear: flowers on tables that never had them, cooking smells from a kitchen that previously produced only functional meals, laughter in corridors built for marching. House Wrath is learning, slowly and grudgingly, that a home is different from a barracks, and the tension between its military nature and its emerging warmth is one of the trilogy's most charming dynamics.

Appearance

A massive dark-stone fortress with sharp angular architecture that looks like it was carved from a single mountain of obsidian. The halls are wide enough for armies to march through, the ceilings are vaulted and imposing, and every surface is functional — weapon racks line corridors, training grounds sprawl across interior courtyards, and the great hall is designed more for war councils than banquets. But there are unexpected pockets of warmth: a library with firelight, private chambers that Wrath has furnished with surprising care, gardens that bloom despite the eternal winter outside.
