Gates of Hell

Location from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

The boundary between worlds — massive, ancient gates that mark the threshold between mortal reality and the domain of the Wicked.

The Gates of Hell are a boundary in every sense — physical, magical, and psychological. Crossing them means leaving the mortal world's rules behind and entering a realm where the laws of physics, morality, and consequence operate differently. The gates respond to blood magic and summoning — they cannot be forced open, only invited to open, and the invitation always comes at a cost. For the witches who know how to work the summoning circles, the gates represent both the greatest temptation and the greatest danger of their craft. Every witch who has ever stood before them has had the same thought: that what lies beyond might hold the answers they're looking for. And every witch has been right — just not in the way they expected.

Appearance

Towering gates of black iron or dark stone, impossibly tall, carved with symbols in languages older than any mortal tongue. They radiate cold and the faint smell of sulfur. The gates themselves seem to breathe — expanding and contracting with a rhythm that suggests something alive, or at least aware.
