Vittoria di Carlo

Character from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Emilia's murdered twin — except death was only the beginning of Vittoria's transformation into something far more terrifying than any demon prince.

Vittoria was always the bolder twin — the one who flirted with danger, bent rules, and treated the world like a banquet laid out for her personal enjoyment. Where Emilia was the knife, Vittoria was the poison: slower to act, harder to detect, and far more lethal once she'd committed to a course of action. She charmed everyone in Palermo — vendors, suitors, even the demons she secretly courted — with a warmth that was genuine even when it was also strategic. After the truth of her nature emerges, Vittoria reveals a capacity for cruelty that is breathtaking in its precision. She is the Goddess of Death, and she wears that title with none of the reluctance Emilia brings to godhood. She believes that mercy is a luxury that mortals invented because they couldn't stomach the cost of justice. She loves her sister absolutely and would still sacrifice her without hesitation if the alternative were worse. Her relationship with Emilia is the axis around which the trilogy turns — twin goddesses who are each other's greatest weakness and greatest threat.

Appearance

Identical to Emilia in build and coloring — dark brown wavy hair, warm brown eyes, olive skin — but where Emilia weaves flowers in her hair, Vittoria wore hers loose and wild. After her transformation, her presence takes on an otherworldly edge: sharper features, colder eyes, an aura of ancient power wrapped in the body of a young Sicilian woman. Her gold cornicello is gone. In its place is the bearing of a queen who has outlived her disguise.
