Sloth

Character from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

The Prince of Sloth — the least visible of the seven brothers, whose apparent laziness conceals a being who has simply decided that most things are not worth the effort of his attention.

Sloth is the brother the others think about least, which is exactly how he prefers it. He speaks rarely, moves slowly, and treats urgency as a character flaw in others. His court is the quietest of the seven, and he governs it with a minimum of effort that somehow produces maximum stability — not because he is ineffective, but because he has refined delegation to an art form. What the other princes misread as laziness is actually a profound and ancient indifference. Sloth has seen empires rise and fall, feuds ignite and burn out, and he has learned that most conflicts resolve themselves if you simply wait long enough. This makes him maddening to deal with but nearly impossible to provoke — and in the rare moments when he does act, the other brothers pay attention, because if something has motivated Sloth, it must be truly significant. He is not cruel, not kind, and not particularly interested in being either. He is simply, profoundly, unimpressed.

Appearance

The least described of the seven princes, which suits him perfectly. When he deigns to appear, he carries himself with the languorous grace of someone who treats movement as an optional activity. His court reflects his nature — muted, quiet, designed for comfort rather than impression.
