Pride

Character from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

The Prince of Pride and self-proclaimed King of Demons — a golden-haired manipulator whose throne room of obsidian and silver hides a reign built on the lie that he is the most powerful.

Pride is the most politically astute of the seven brothers and the most outwardly regal — he built his court to rival Versailles and his reputation to rival God's. He speaks in measured, elegant sentences that always contain at least one hidden blade, and he treats every conversation as a negotiation he has already won. His greatest talent is making people feel small without ever raising his voice. But Pride's defining weakness is right there in his name: he cannot tolerate being second. The revelation that Wrath is the true king unravels centuries of carefully maintained supremacy, and his response to this humiliation drives much of the trilogy's political intrigue. He is capable of genuine charm and even something adjacent to kindness, but both are always in service of maintaining his position. His relationship with Lucia — his ex-wife and a woman he genuinely loved — reveals the only crack in his armor. Pride can lose anything except his pride, which is why losing Lucia destroyed him more than losing the throne ever could.

Appearance

Devastatingly handsome with burnished chestnut-brown hair threaded with gold, cut short on the sides and longer on top. Silvery-blue eyes and a pale silver scar that cuts across his lips — a mark of old violence that only enhances his dangerous beauty. Dressed always in dark navy and silver, his House colors, with the impeccable taste of someone who believes himself the center of every room. Carries himself with the absolute certainty that everyone is looking at him, because they usually are.
