Fauna

Character from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

A fierce young woman of the demon realm who befriends Emilia in Hell — all wild curls, animal-skull jewelry, and a loyalty that cuts deeper than any blood bargain.

Fauna is fierce, funny, and refreshingly direct in a world where everyone speaks in riddles and double meanings. She says what she thinks with a bluntness that can be startling in the demon courts, where verbal maneuvering is a survival skill. Her friendship with Emilia is one of the trilogy's most genuine relationships — uncomplicated by ancient prophecies or political maneuvering, built simply on mutual respect and shared stubbornness. She has a deep connection to the natural world of the demon realm — the creatures, the plants, the wild magic that exists outside the courts — and this gives her a perspective the princes and their courtiers lack. She sees the Seven Circles as an ecosystem, not a hierarchy, and this makes her both wise and occasionally dangerous to the established order. Her loyalty, once given, is absolute. She chose Emilia not because of prophecy or politics but because Emilia treated her like a person, and in the demon realm, that counts for more than any title.

Appearance

Long curly jet-black hair adorned with small animal skulls fastened throughout — a macabre crown that suits her perfectly. Rich sepia-colored eyes and brown skin. Generous curves. She dresses like someone who raided a naturalist's cabinet and a witch's wardrobe simultaneously, all bones and herbs and dark fabric.
