Scala ad Caelum

Location from Kingdom Hearts by Tetsuya Nomura / Square Enix & Disney

The ancient city of Keyblade wielders built upon the ruins of Daybreak Town — where Master Xehanort studied in his youth and where the Dark Seeker saga reaches its climax.

Scala ad Caelum — 'Stairway to Heaven' — is the most visually stunning world in Kingdom Hearts and the site of the saga's final battle. Built upon the sunken ruins of ancient Daybreak Town, it was once the center of Keyblade wielder civilization, where Masters trained their successors and the balance of light and darkness was maintained. Master Xehanort studied here in his youth, and it was here that his obsession with Kingdom Hearts and the chi-blade first took root. The city represents everything he once was and everything he chose to destroy in pursuit of his ambitions. The final confrontation between Sora and the armored Master Xehanort takes place across the city's rooftops and waterways — a spectacular battle that brings the entire Dark Seeker saga to its conclusion. It is here that Eraqus's spirit reaches Xehanort, and the old man finally lets go.

Appearance

A breathtaking city of white stone buildings with terracotta rooftops cascading down cliffsides toward a brilliant blue sea, connected by bridges, staircases, and waterways. The architecture is Mediterranean in style with ornate clocktowers, domed buildings, and arched bridges. Wind turbines and flowing water suggest a thriving civilization, though in the present era it appears largely abandoned.
