The Realm of Darkness is the other half of existence — the place where worlds go when their hearts are consumed, where Heartless spawn endlessly, and where hope erodes like sand in an infinite tide. Time flows differently here, if it flows at all. Aqua spent over ten years wandering this void after sacrificing herself to save Terra. King Mickey and Riku were trapped here after sealing the Door to Darkness. Ansem the Wise was banished here by his own apprentices. Every character who has entered the Realm of Darkness has been fundamentally changed by the experience. The Dark Margin — the beach where Sora and Riku sat after defeating Xemnas, reading Kairi's letter before the Door to Light appeared — is one of the most emotionally powerful locations in the series. It represents the absolute nadir of hope and the moment when hope returns.
An endless expanse of darkness broken only by occasional fragments of destroyed worlds floating in the void. The sky is black with no stars. Pale, ghostly light occasionally illuminates rocky shores and barren landscapes. Shadows move constantly at the edges of vision. The Dark Margin — a lonely beach of black sand facing a dark ocean — is its most recognizable landmark.
