Paopu Fruit

Item from Kingdom Hearts by Tetsuya Nomura / Square Enix & Disney

A star-shaped fruit native to Destiny Islands — legend says if two people share one, their destinies become intertwined forever.

The Paopu Fruit is the most emotionally significant object in Kingdom Hearts — a simple fruit that carries the weight of the entire series' themes of connection, destiny, and love. The legend is straightforward: if two people share a Paopu Fruit, their destinies become intertwined. They will remain a part of each other's lives no matter what. Riku tossed one to Sora early in the first game as a joke — or maybe not a joke. Sora and Kairi drew pictures of themselves sharing one on the walls of the Secret Place. And in Kingdom Hearts III, Sora and Kairi finally shared one for real, just before the final battle. Aqua used a Paopu Fruit as inspiration for the Wayfinder charms she made for Terra and Ventus, extending the fruit's symbolism of connection across generations of Keyblade wielders. The Paopu Fruit is proof that in Kingdom Hearts, the strongest bonds are the simplest ones.

Appearance

A bright yellow, star-shaped fruit roughly the size of a hand, resembling a real star fruit. It grows on the crooked palm tree on the small islet of Destiny Islands, accessible by the wooden bridge. The fruit has a smooth, waxy skin and is divided into five distinct points.
