Kingdom Key

Item from Kingdom Hearts by Tetsuya Nomura / Square Enix & Disney

Sora's signature Keyblade — a simple silver and gold key-shaped weapon that is the most iconic symbol of the Kingdom Hearts series.

The Kingdom Key is the first Keyblade Sora ever wielded and the weapon most associated with his identity. It appeared to him in a flash of light when darkness consumed Destiny Islands, choosing him as its wielder despite Riku being the originally intended heir. Though visually simple compared to the elaborate Keyblades Sora later acquires, the Kingdom Key is the Keyblade of Worlds' Hearts — capable of locking and unlocking any barrier between worlds and sealing the Keyholes that protect each world's heart from the Heartless. Its mirror counterpart, the Kingdom Key D wielded by King Mickey, has inverted colors — a gold blade and silver guard. The Kingdom Key's crown-shaped teeth and Mickey keychain represent the fusion of Square Enix and Disney that defines Kingdom Hearts itself.

Appearance

A classic skeleton key approximately three and a half feet long. The blade and teeth are silver, the rainguard is blue, and the guard is bright gold. The teeth form the outline of a crown matching Sora's crown pendant. A long silver keychain ending in a Hidden Mickey token hangs from the hilt.
