Character from Kingdom Hearts by Tetsuya Nomura / Square Enix & Disney
The embodiment of the darkness extracted from Ventus's heart — he wears a mask to hide a face identical to Sora's and seeks to reforge the chi-blade through violence.
Vanitas is rage and pain given form. Extracted from Ventus's heart by Master Xehanort, he was born screaming into a world that offered him nothing but suffering and purpose. Every negative emotion Ventus could not process — every fear, every jealousy, every buried cruelty — became Vanitas. And Xehanort molded that raw darkness into a weapon. He is proud, sadistic, and genuinely enjoys causing pain, but there is a desperation beneath the cruelty. He was told that merging with Ventus to forge the chi-blade was his only chance at salvation — at becoming whole, at ending the constant agony of being an incomplete existence. Whether this is true or simply Xehanort's manipulation is unclear, but Vanitas believes it with religious fervor. His fighting style is aggressive and teleportation-heavy, appearing and vanishing like a nightmare. He is the progenitor of all Unversed — the creatures of negative emotion that serve as Birth by Sleep's primary enemies. Every Unversed destroyed returns to him as pain. He is, quite literally, a boy made of suffering.
Wears a black and red organic bodysuit resembling Riku's Dark Mode, with a silver helmet of dark glass hiding his face. Beneath the mask, he looks exactly like Sora but with black hair, golden eyes, paler skin, and a crueler expression. He wields the Void Gear Keyblade — a dark, angular blade with glowing blue eyes in its design.
