Master Eraqus

Character from Kingdom Hearts by Tetsuya Nomura / Square Enix & Disney

A Keyblade Master devoted to the light who trained Terra, Aqua, and Ventus — murdered by his oldest friend Xehanort, his spirit lingered to help redeem him in the end.

Master Eraqus is the father figure of Birth by Sleep and the moral center that Xehanort corrupted by destroying. He raised Terra, Aqua, and Ventus as his own children, teaching them that darkness must be destroyed at all costs — a belief so absolute it became its own kind of blindness. When he discovered that Ventus could be used to forge the chi-blade, Eraqus tried to destroy the boy he loved rather than let darkness win. It was the wrong choice made for the right reasons, and Terra stopped him — only for Xehanort to murder Eraqus in the moment of vulnerability. His spirit survived within Terra's heart, hiding, waiting, fighting alongside Terra's will against Xehanort's possession. In the final battle of Kingdom Hearts III, Eraqus's spirit appeared to Xehanort — his oldest friend and murderer — and spoke to him not with anger but with compassion, helping the old villain finally let go. It is perhaps the most generous act of forgiveness in the entire saga.

Appearance

An older man with black hair tied in a short high topknot, a triangular soul patch and mustache, and facial scars across his right eye and left cheek from a duel with Xehanort. He wears a white and red-lined hooded haori over navy blue clothing with hakama pants and gold-and-black armored boots. He wields the Master's Defender Keyblade.
