Leon is the grounded human element in a story full of cosmic powers and magical weapons. He has no Keyblade, no dark powers, no ancient destiny — just a gunblade, a group of friends, and the stubborn refusal to let his world stay broken. He changed his name from Squall to Leon as penance for failing to protect Radiant Garden when the Heartless came. He serves as Sora's first real mentor, teaching him the basics of combat and the nature of the Keyblade in Traverse Town. Later, he leads the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee — a ragtag group of Final Fantasy characters working to rebuild their world one brick at a time. Initially brooding and withdrawn, Leon gradually opens up as the rebuilding progresses, forming a particularly notable bond with Cloud. He is a natural leader who earns loyalty through competence and quiet reliability rather than charisma.
