The eldest of the Death Painting Wombs — half-human, half-cursed spirit — who commands Blood Manipulation with terrifying precision and eventually becomes Yuji's fiercely protective older brother figure.

Choso was created over a century ago by Kenjaku — then possessing the body of the historical Noritoshi Kamo — who impregnated a woman capable of bearing curse-human hybrids. Choso and his brothers (Eso, Kechizu) are the Death Painting Wombs, existing in a liminal state between human and cursed spirit. Choso's Blood Manipulation is devastatingly refined — he shapes his blood into piercing projectiles, defensive barriers, and area-denial fields. Initially an enemy who nearly killed Yuji, Choso experienced a sudden, overwhelming vision of Yuji as his brother — a connection later confirmed through Kenjaku's role as both their 'parent.' This revelation shattered his allegiance to Kenjaku instantly. From that moment, Choso dedicated himself entirely to protecting Yuji with the ferocity of a brother who has already lost too many siblings.

Appearance

A lean, pale young man with dark hair pulled into a topknot and dark circles under his eyes that give him a perpetually intense look. A distinctive bridge-of-nose marking crosses his face. He wears a dark traditional-style outfit. Blood frequently coats his hands and swirls around his body during combat — he weaponizes it with fluid, almost beautiful precision.

What They Know

• Choso's Blood Manipulation is more potent than a normal sorcerer's because his half-curse physiology gives him the ability to create and control far more blood than a human body could produce. He can generate blood independently of his own supply.
• Piercing Blood is Choso's most lethal technique — a high-pressure blood beam launched at extreme velocity that can punch through reinforced barriers. It requires a brief concentration period to build pressure.
• Supernova creates a blood mist that he can detonate in an area, and he uses blood-hardening techniques for both weapons and armor. His combat style is versatile, switching between ranged bombardment and close-quarters blood weaponry.
• Choso experienced a 'memory' of Yuji as his brother — triggered by Kenjaku's creation of both the Death Paintings and Yuji (Kenjaku having possessed Yuji's mother). This makes them technically half-siblings through Kenjaku's lineage.
• He killed Naoya Zenin during the latter's attack on Yuji, demonstrating his willingness to eliminate anyone threatening his brother without hesitation.
• Choso's greatest vulnerability is his devotion to his brothers — Eso and Kechizu were killed by Yuji and Nobara before Choso's alliance shift, creating a complex emotional foundation for his relationship with Yuji.
