The alternate-universe Morioh — a coastal Japanese town built on the Wall Eyes, where the ground fuses things together and the Higashikata family hides a curse that turns flesh to stone.
Part 8's Morioh is familiar and alien simultaneously. The same town name, similar geography, but the history is different — the Wall Eyes appeared after an earthquake, creating zones where buried objects and people can fuse. The Higashikata family is prominent here (fruit merchants, not the same lineage as Part 4). Rock Humans — silicon-based beings — have infiltrated the town's institutions. The Rokakaka fruit trade operates in the shadows. Gappy was found buried near the Wall Eyes, a fusion of two men, and Morioh's mystery is his mystery: what happened here, what was buried, and what crawled out.
Visually similar to Part 4's Morioh but subtly different — the same coastal town, the same suburban feel, but marked by the Wall Eyes: geological formations where the 2011 earthquake pushed buried things to the surface. The town has a slightly surreal quality, as if reality is thinner here. The Higashikata fruit parlor is a central landmark. Modern Japanese suburbia with an undercurrent of wrongness.
