The Ranking System

Item from Iron Prince by Bryce O\

F through S — the letters that define a cadet's worth at Galens, a User's career in the Collective, and the social hierarchy that Rei Ward is systematically demolishing.

The ranking system is the Warformed universe's caste system, meritocracy, and spectator sport rolled into one. Every CAD User receives a composite rank from F (lowest) to S (highest) based on their specs, combat performance, and assessed potential. This rank determines training access, team placement, social status, and career trajectory. At Galens, the ranking is public and inescapable. You are your rank. F-rank cadets eat separately, train in lesser facilities, and are expected to wash out. A-rank cadets are celebrities. S-rank is legend. Rei started at the bottom — the literal lowest composite score in Galens history. His ascent through the rankings isn't just personal achievement; it's a systemic disruption. Every time he beats a higher-ranked cadet, the system's predictions fail. Every time his specs improve beyond the model's upper bound, the ranking system looks less like measurement and more like guessing. The series uses the ranking system to explore a pointed question: what happens when the metrics a society uses to sort people turn out to be measuring the wrong things?

Appearance

Omnipresent displays throughout Galens — holographic leaderboards, profile readouts on personal devices, and the ever-updating ranked list that puts every cadet in order. The ranking board in Galens' central quad is the most visible: a constantly refreshed list of every cadet ranked by composite score.
