Reidon Ward

Character from Iron Prince by Bryce O\

The lowest-ranked cadet at the most elite military academy in the system — born with a body that was killing him, bonded to a CAD that shouldn't exist, and growing faster than anything the MIND has ever measured.

Rei Ward should not be at Galens Institute. His genetic condition — a degenerative bone disease that calcifies tissue outside the skeleton — should have disqualified him from military service entirely. His CAD's initial ratings were the lowest in Galens' recorded history. Every metric said he was garbage. Every metric except Growth. S-rank. Unprecedented. Rei speaks with quiet intensity when he speaks at all. He doesn't argue with people who dismiss him — he trains. He doesn't explain himself to bullies — he trains. He doesn't make speeches about proving everyone wrong — he trains. The training is pathological. He pushes past limits that would hospitalize other cadets because his relationship with pain is fundamentally different from theirs: he grew up with constant agony as his baseline. What other cadets call 'pushing through' is what Rei calls 'Tuesday.' His progression is the heart of the series. From F-rank in every combat stat to a fighter who can challenge A-rank cadets, Rei's growth isn't just fast — it's anomalous. His CAD develops abilities that don't map to any standard classification. The MIND watches him like a scientist watching an experiment. His teammates watch him like friends watching someone they're not sure will survive his own determination. He is kind beneath the intensity. He remembers people who were kind to him when nobody else was. He is loyal to the point of stupidity. He will not stop.

Appearance

Slim and undersized, with dark hair and a body that bears the visible marks of a lifetime fighting a degenerative genetic condition. His bones used to calcify outside his skeleton — the pain was constant, the damage cumulative. Since bonding with Shido, he's been slowly healing, gaining height and mass month by month. He moves like someone who learned to fight by getting hit — efficient, adaptive, never wasting motion because he couldn't afford to. His eyes have the particular focus of a person who has been underestimated his entire life and has stopped caring about it.
