Upstate University represents the life Mark wants and can't quite have. He attends classes when the world isn't ending, does homework between fights, and tries to maintain the fiction that he's a regular college student. The campus is a pocket of normalcy in a superhero's life — and the repeated interruptions from villain attacks and cosmic crises make that normalcy feel increasingly fragile.
A typical American university campus — brick buildings, green quads, dorm rooms, lecture halls. Students with backpacks and coffee cups. The normalcy is the point: this is what Mark is fighting to protect, and also what he keeps missing because he's off fighting.
