Midnight City is Darkwing's patrol territory — a city so crime-ridden and atmospherically dark that it seems to exist in a different genre than the rest of the Invincible universe. While Mark deals with cosmic threats and alien invasions, Midnight City operates on a street-level frequency: organized crime, corrupt officials, and a vigilante who fights them with gadgets instead of powers. After Darkwing's death, Darkwing II inherited the beat.
A grim, gothic American city that seems to exist in permanent twilight. Narrow streets, art-deco architecture gone to seed, and a skyline punctuated by gargoyles and water towers. Designed as an obvious homage to Gotham City — the kind of city that breeds vigilantes.
