Id Ascendant

Location from Icewind Dale by R.A. Salvatore / Wizards of the Coast / Black Isle Studios

A crashed mind flayer nautiloid ship half-buried in the tundra — its psionic engines still hum, and its surviving crew are stranded and desperate.

The Id Ascendant is profoundly alien — everything about it, from the curving corridors sized for illithid anatomy to the bioluminescent walls that pulse in response to nearby thoughts, communicates otherworldliness. The air inside tastes metallic and carries a subsonic hum that causes headaches in non-psionic creatures. The surviving mind flayers are a fractured community, cut off from their elder brain and struggling with the unfamiliar experience of individual thought. The psionic engines still function partially, creating zones of amplified mental energy around the ship that cause vivid hallucinations in passing travelers.

Appearance

An enormous organic vessel resembling a nautilus shell, partially embedded in the frozen ground at an angle. The hull is a mottled purple-grey material that appears biological rather than constructed. Tendrils of organic matter spread from the crash site into the surrounding ground. A faint purple luminescence pulses from cracks in the hull.
