Caer-Dineval

Location from Icewind Dale by R.A. Salvatore / Wizards of the Coast / Black Isle Studios

A small town on Lac Dinneshere dominated by a hilltop castle — now secretly infiltrated by a cult devoted to Levistus, the archdevil imprisoned in ice.

Caer-Dineval has always lived in the shadow of its castle, but under the Rime that shadow has grown darker. The speaker governs from the castle, and lately, visitors are not welcome. Townsfolk who climb the hill to petition their leader return changed — quieter, colder in manner, given to staring at nothing. The lakeshore district smells of old fish and damp stone. The wind off Lac Dinneshere carries a chill that feels personal, directed. Whispered conversations in the Uphill Climb tavern hint at strange lights in the castle windows and chanting that carries down the hill on still nights.

Appearance

A cluster of buildings along the lakeshore, overshadowed by a dark stone castle perched on the bluff above. The castle's silhouette against the sky is jagged and foreboding, its windows rarely lit. The town below feels like an afterthought — huddled in the castle's shadow, the buildings are old and poorly maintained.
