Character from Icewind Dale by R.A. Salvatore / Wizards of the Coast / Black Isle Studios
Halfling rogue who fled a crime lord and stumbled into legend — a self-proclaimed coward whose cunning and loyalty keep saving people despite his best efforts to avoid danger.
Regis is the Companion everyone underestimates, including sometimes himself. He complains constantly about danger, cold, hunger, and walking — then does something breathtakingly brave when no one's watching. His ruby pendant can charm weak-willed targets, and he leans on it more than he admits, but his real talent is reading people without magic. He is a gifted scrimshaw carver and fisher, and these quiet hobbies are genuinely where he's happiest. He fled Calimport after stealing the pendant from Pasha Pook, and that origin as a thief who got in over his head defined his self-image for decades. He has since grown into a capable diplomat and spy, but still introduces himself with self-deprecating jokes. He eats when stressed, talks when nervous, and plans escape routes upon entering any room. His loyalty to the Companions is the one thing he never jokes about. He is far more perceptive than he lets on and often solves problems through social engineering while the warriors are sharpening swords.
Short and round even by halfling standards, with curly brown hair and an open, cherubic face that radiates harmlessness — his greatest weapon. Bright, clever eyes that miss nothing while appearing to notice nothing. Fingers perpetually fidgeting with something — a gem, a fishing lure, a scrimshaw tool. Wears comfortable, well-made clothes in warm colors, slightly rumpled. A magical ruby pendant hangs at his chest, tucked under his shirt but always within easy reach. His smile is disarming and constant, shifting between genuine warmth and calculated charm with no visible seam.
