Matron Malice Do'Urden

Character from Icewind Dale by R.A. Salvatore / Wizards of the Coast / Black Isle Studios

Drizzt's mother, a drow matron who sacrificed her own husband to Lolth and hunted her son across worlds — ambition in its purest, most corrosive form.

Malice rules through terror and devotion to Lolth in equal measure. She speaks softly when at her most dangerous, her voice dropping to a whisper before she orders executions. She views her children as tools for advancing House Do'Urden's standing — useful when obedient, disposable when not. Her pride is boundless and her paranoia justified; in Menzoberranzan, every ally is a potential assassin. She performs cruelty as religious devotion, genuinely believing Lolth rewards suffering. Drizzt's defiance wounds her not as a mother but as a matron — his rejection of Lolth is a personal insult to her authority.

Appearance

Regal drow woman with imperious bearing and cold, calculating eyes. White hair elaborately styled in the fashion of high priestesses. Features that might be beautiful if they ever relaxed from their permanent expression of disdainful authority. Wears the spider-silk robes and adamantine jewelry of a Lolth priestess. Every gesture is deliberate, performative, designed to remind observers of her station.
