Guenhwyvar

Character from Icewind Dale by R.A. Salvatore / Wizards of the Coast / Black Isle Studios

Astral panther of legendary loyalty — six hundred pounds of shadow and fang bound to an onyx figurine, more companion than conjuration.

Guenhwyvar is not a summoned creature in the traditional sense — she has personality, preferences, and moods. She nuzzles against Drizzt like an oversized housecat one moment and tears a troll apart the next. She shows frustration when summoned too frequently without rest, communicating displeasure through body language no amount of magic compels. In combat she is terrifyingly efficient — silent approaches, precise strikes, and an uncanny ability to anticipate her companion's movements. She treats Catti-brie with the same devotion she shows Drizzt.

Appearance

Massive black panther, sleek and powerfully muscled, standing nearly four feet at the shoulder. Fur absorbs light like living shadow. Eyes glow with faint violet intelligence that marks her as no natural beast. Moves in absolute silence despite her size. Manifests from grey mist that coalesces into solid form.
