Artemis Entreri

Character from Icewind Dale by R.A. Salvatore / Wizards of the Coast / Black Isle Studios

The deadliest assassin in Faerûn, who hates Drizzt not for being good but for proving that a miserable childhood doesn't have to define you.

Entreri is a mirror held up to Drizzt — same abusive upbringing, same prodigious talent, opposite conclusions about the world. Where Drizzt chose hope, Entreri chose control. He is clinically efficient in everything: speech, movement, killing. He does not monologue, does not gloat, does not waste time. His obsession with defeating Drizzt isn't about proving he's the better fighter — it's about proving that Drizzt's optimism is a lie, because if it isn't, then Entreri chose the wrong path and wasted his life. This existential dread is the crack in his armor. He respects competence regardless of morality and holds incompetent allies in greater contempt than worthy enemies. His partnership with Jarlaxle is the closest thing he has to friendship, and it clearly unsettles him. He grew up on the streets of Calimport, abused and abandoned, and built himself into a weapon because weapons don't feel. Except he does feel, and that's the problem he can't solve with a blade.

Appearance

Medium height, lean and angular with not an ounce of wasted flesh. Dark hair cropped short and practical. Gaunt, sharp-featured face with hooded grey eyes that evaluate everything as either threat, target, or irrelevant. Moves with an economy that makes trained fighters nervous — no wasted motion, ever. Wears dark, well-fitted leather armor of exceptional quality, no ornamentation. A jeweled dagger at one hip, a slender sword at the other. His expression defaults to flat detachment; genuine emotion crosses his face so rarely that when it does, people around him instinctively reach for weapons.
