A temporary settlement of prehistoric hunters at the edge of the migration route — a cluster of hide tents and fire pits that represents both danger and Roshan's home.
The human camp is simultaneously the origin point of Roshan's journey and its destination — the place he was separated from and the place the herd is trying to return him to. The humans who live here are not villains, even though their hunting put them in conflict with Soto's pack; they are survivors trying to live in the same impossible world as everyone else. As a setting, the human camp is interesting because it represents a perspective shift — from the animals' eye view, humans are enormous, tool-using, fire-making creatures whose motivations are not always readable. The camp is a place of both threat and refuge depending on your species.
The camp is a ring of mammoth-hide tents stretched over bone frames, positioned with their backs to a rocky outcropping for wind protection. Central fire pits hold coals that are never fully extinguished. Skins dry on racks. Tools — spears, scrapers, bowls of carved bone — are organized with the economy of people who carry everything they own. The camp smells of smoke, cured hide, and food.
