Soto leads his pack with an iron authority built on fear and results. When human hunters killed half his pack and took his territory, Soto dedicated himself to vengeance — specifically to killing Roshan, the infant son of the tribe's leader, and wearing the human's pelt. As a storytelling presence, Soto is a pure antagonist without the room for redemption that makes Diego interesting. He is what Diego could become if loyalty to power is chosen over loyalty to people. He is intelligent, patient, and utterly certain that his cause is just — which makes him more dangerous than a simple brute.
Soto is larger and darker than Diego, his fur carrying a slate-grey cast that makes him look like a shadow given teeth. His saber-teeth are longer and more yellowed than Diego's, worn from use. His eyes are cold and calculating without Diego's internal conflict — there is no warmth in them, only the arithmetic of power and revenge.
