Character from Hyperion by Dan Simmons
The TechnoCore's phase-shifting assassin — a cybernetic construct disguised as a young woman who hunts Aenea across the galaxy and can fight the Shrike to a standstill.
Rhadamanth Nemes is the TechnoCore's answer to the Aenea problem — a cybernetic construct capable of phase-shifting through time and space, disguised as a human woman, tasked with killing the One Who Teaches before she can spread the DNA Sacrament. She killed the Consul approximately seventy-four years after the Fall. She fought the Shrike on God's Grove — one of the few entities capable of matching it in combat. She has 'siblings' (other Nemes-class constructs) deployed across the galaxy. She represents the TechnoCore's desperation — the lengths to which an AI civilization will go to prevent humanity from accessing the Void Which Binds independently. If humans can freecast without farcasters, the TechnoCore loses its leverage. Nemes is the enforcer of that leverage.
Appears as an unremarkable young woman — the perfect disguise for a killing machine. When she phase-shifts, she becomes partially transparent, moving between moments of time faster than perception. Her true nature is chrome and purpose beneath a human mask.
