Kakin is the setting for the series' current arc — the Succession War. The empire's king decreed that his fourteen princes must compete in a death match aboard the Black Whale, each granted a Nen beast guardian spirit. Kurapika is on the ship as a bodyguard. The Phantom Troupe is on the ship for their own reasons. The arc is the series at its most politically dense — fourteen princes with fourteen Nen beasts, factions within factions, and Kurapika trying to navigate it all while hunting Tserriednich.

Appearance

A large, wealthy empire with modern infrastructure and a powerful military. The Black Whale — an enormous ship transporting the Succession War — is the arc's primary setting: a floating city with five decks of decreasing social status.
