East Gorteau

Location from Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi

A totalitarian nation the Chimera Ant King conquered — where Meruem held court, played Gungi with Komugi, and the Palace Invasion changed everything.

East Gorteau was conquered by Meruem as a base of operations — its dictatorial government was simply replaced by a more efficient predator. The Royal Palace became the site of the Palace Invasion: Netero's suicide attack, the Royal Guards' defense, and the final Gungi game between Meruem and Komugi. The nation is the series' most politically charged setting — a dictatorship consumed by monsters, with the implication that the monsters improved the government's efficiency rather than worsening its cruelty.

Appearance

A nation resembling North Korea — authoritarian architecture, military parades, and a population under absolute control. The Royal Palace is a grand, imposing structure where Meruem established his court. The country's existing totalitarianism made it easy for the ants to take over — the population was already accustomed to obedience.
