Nen is the power system and it is perfect. Six types (Enhancement, Transmutation, Emission, Conjuration, Manipulation, Specialization) correspond to personality traits and determine what kinds of abilities a user can develop. The key insight: limitations make abilities stronger. A restriction (like Kurapika's chain only working on the Phantom Troupe) increases power proportionally to the sacrifice. The system is elegant because it rewards self-knowledge over raw power. Understanding your personality type, accepting your limitations, and designing abilities that work with (not against) your nature — this is what separates a strong Nen user from a dangerous one. The strongest ability isn't the most powerful — it's the one most perfectly suited to its user.
Nen is invisible to non-users — trained users see aura as a luminous field surrounding the body. Different techniques manifest differently: Ten (containment) appears as a calm glow, Ren (intensification) as a blazing aura, En (detection) as an expanding sphere, and Hatsu (personal expression) takes whatever form the user's ability requires.
