Hisoka Morow

Character from Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi

The Magician — a combat-obsessed predator who views every powerful person as a fruit to be ripened and then devoured, and whose loyalty, morality, and alliances are all subordinate to the question: will fighting you be fun?

Hisoka defies categorization. He is not a hero (he kills for pleasure), not a villain (he helps the protagonists repeatedly), and not an antihero (his motives are purely selfish). He is a combat fetishist — someone who derives genuine sexual pleasure from fighting strong opponents. He let Gon live during the Hunter Exam because he saw potential; he joined the Phantom Troupe to fight Chrollo; he allies with or opposes anyone depending entirely on whether they're interesting to fight. His Nen abilities — Bungee Gum (elastic aura that stretches and contracts like gum) and Texture Surprise (visual camouflage that can disguise surfaces) — are deceptively simple but devastatingly versatile. He won't shut up about Bungee Gum's properties. This is both a character trait and a combat strategy: by explaining his abilities, he baits opponents into thinking they understand him. He is charming, terrifying, and the series' most honest character — he tells you exactly what he wants (to fight you when you're at your strongest) and means it every time. The Grim Reaper with a deck of cards.

Appearance

Tall and muscular with a theatrical appearance: face paint (a star on the right cheek and a teardrop on the left, alternating), slicked-back red hair, and golden eyes with a predatory gleam. He dresses in flashy, playing-card-themed outfits. Every gesture is a performance — he moves like a stage magician, all misdirection and drama. His smile is the scariest thing in the series.
