Chrollo Lucilfer

Character from Hunter x Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi

The head of the Phantom Troupe — a calm, cultured thief who steals Nen abilities the way other people collect art, and who views the Troupe's survival as more important than any individual member, including himself.

Chrollo leads the Phantom Troupe with a quiet charisma that makes people willing to die for him — and he's willing to let them. He founded the Troupe in Meteor City, a lawless dump where the world discards its unwanted, and he built it into the most feared criminal organization in existence. His leadership philosophy: the spider (the Troupe) is more important than the head (himself). If killing him keeps the Troupe alive, he'd accept it. His Nen ability — Skill Hunter — allows him to steal other Nen users' abilities by meeting specific conditions and storing them in a book he conjures. He is the ultimate collector: abilities, art, treasures, experiences. He steals because he can, because beauty shouldn't be hoarded by the unworthy, and because the act of taking is, for him, the closest thing to meaning. He is intelligent, ruthless, and genuinely philosophical about his crimes. He doesn't enjoy killing (unlike Hisoka) — he simply doesn't weight it as a moral consideration. He is the series' most complete antagonist because he's not evil in a simple way; he's evil in a way that makes you understand why thirteen people would follow him into anything.

Appearance

Lean and handsome with dark hair, grey eyes, and a cross-shaped tattoo on his forehead. He wears a long fur-trimmed coat and carries a book (his Nen ability). His manner is serene and intellectual — he reads philosophy between heists. He looks like a college professor who moonlights as the world's most dangerous criminal.
