Item from The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Walt Disney Animation Studios
A small woven band that looks like a simple bracelet — and functions as a secret map to the Court of Miracles.
Esmeralda gives the amulet to Quasimodo after he helps her escape Notre Dame, telling him only: 'When you wear this woven band, you hold the city in your hand.' He carries it for days without understanding it. The pattern in the threads is a map of the graveyard entrance to the Court of Miracles — readable only to someone who knows the Roma cartographic tradition, or who has been told what to look for. Quasimodo decodes it by accident, which led Frollo directly to the Court. The amulet is an act of trust that almost became a catastrophe.
The amulet is a flat band of woven threads in the colors of the Roma — red, gold, green, blue — intricately patterned in a way that reads as decorative until you know how to look at it. Esmeralda wears it on her wrist, or carries it in her hand, or passes it to someone she trusts.
