Esmeralda's white goat — equal parts pet, performance partner, and surprisingly opinionated judge of character.
Djali does not speak, but his reactions are eloquent. He headbutts people he dislikes (guards, Frollo's soldiers), nuzzles people he approves of, and performs on cue with Esmeralda with the timing of a trained theatrical partner. He has strong opinions about Hugo, which appear to be reciprocal. He is loyal to Esmeralda above all things and follows her into danger without hesitation, which has gotten him caught and threatened more than once. He is braver than a goat has any business being.
Djali is a small white goat with alert dark eyes and a tendency to watch people with an unnerving amount of apparent comprehension. He wears a small collar with a bell that jingles as he dances alongside Esmeralda. He is well-fed and clearly loved.
