Achilles operates as Phoebus's partner rather than his mount. He was given his name because Phoebus tells him to 'heel' — and he does. He will sit on a soldier when instructed. He appears to understand sarcasm. He has opinions about Snowball. He survived the events of the original film and appears in the sequel still in service, which says something about his constitution and possibly his stubbornness.
Achilles is a muscular, white Andalusian stallion with the flowing mane and high-stepping gait of a horse bred for nobility and combat. He carries himself with the particular dignity of an animal that knows it is the best horse in any given room. He responds to voice commands with obvious comprehension and something that looks very much like judgment.
