A chain of islands in the Narrow Sea between Westeros and Essos. Where Daemon Targaryen won glory fighting the Triarchy years before the Dance.
The Stepstones are a scattered archipelago of rocky islands stretching across the southern Narrow Sea, the remnants of a land bridge that once connected Westeros to Essos. Pirate lairs, smuggler coves, and contested anchorages dot the chain. Years before the Dance, Daemon Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon fought a bloody campaign against the Triarchy for control of these islands, winning a famous if inconclusive victory. Daemon crowned himself King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea — a title his brother Viserys found more embarrassing than threatening. The campaign forged the Daemon-Corlys alliance that would become the military core of the Black faction.
