Location from House of the Dragon by George R.R. Martin
The central kingdom of Westeros, defined by its rivers and its suffering. Black-aligned during the Dance, it is devastated by the fighting more than any other region.
The Riverlands are the crossroads of Westeros — every war passes through them, and every war destroys them. Defined by the Trident and its tributaries, the region is fertile but flat, with no natural defenses. During the Dance, the Riverlands declare for the Blacks under the Tullys, and their strategic position makes them the war's primary land theater. Harrenhal serves as the Black base, while Green armies from the Westerlands and Reach march through Riverlander territory. The smallfolk suffer enormously as dragons burn fields and armies forage without restraint. The Gods Eye and its Isle of Faces sit at the region's heart — the lake where Daemon and Aemond will fight their final battle.
Central Westeros, crisscrossed by rivers. The most fought-over region — every war devastates it. Black-aligned during the Dance. Harrenhal dominates.
