Location from House of the Dragon by George R.R. Martin
The oldest city in Westeros, seat of House Hightower and home to the Citadel where maesters are trained. The political base of the Green faction.
Oldtown is ancient in a way that makes King's Landing look like a construction site. The city predates the Andal invasion, the Citadel has trained maesters for centuries, and the Hightower — a massive lighthouse on Battle Isle at the mouth of the Honeywine — is the tallest structure in Westeros. This is Alicent Hightower's family seat, and Otto Hightower's power base. The maesters of the Citadel exert quiet influence over every castle in the realm through their monopoly on learning, medicine, and communication by raven. Some whisper that the maesters conspired against the dragons. Oldtown stays largely out of the fighting during the Dance, but its political influence through Otto and Alicent shapes the entire conflict.
Oldest city in Westeros. The Hightower — a massive stepped lighthouse — dominates the skyline. The Citadel sprawls along the Honeywine river. Ancient, scholarly, wealthy. The Hightower family has ruled here for thousands of years.
