Location from House of the Dragon by George R.R. Martin
The main road running the length of Westeros from Storm's End through King's Landing to the Wall. The realm's principal artery for trade, travel, and troop movement.
The Kingsroad is the longest and most important road in Westeros, stretching from the southern coast through King's Landing and north all the way to Castle Black and the Wall. Built and maintained by the crown, it is wide enough for two wagons to pass and surfaced with packed earth and gravel. During the Dance, the Kingsroad becomes a highway for armies — Cregan Stark's northern host marches south along it, Green forces use it to reinforce King's Landing, and refugees clog it in both directions. Control of the road means control of movement across the continent. It passes through the Riverlands, making it vulnerable to ambush and disruption by whichever side holds that contested territory.
