Volcanic island fortress in Blackwater Bay, ancestral Targaryen stronghold before the Conquest. Rhaenyra's seat during the Dance of the Dragons.
Dragonstone is a grim, beautiful fortress carved from the volcanic rock of its island, shaped by Valyrian dragonlords into walls of fused stone decorated with dragon motifs — gargoyles, wyrms, and serpents worked into every gate and tower. The castle sits above a smoldering mountain, and the air smells of sulfur. Its dungeons are carved from dragonglass. As the traditional seat of the Targaryen heir, it passes to Rhaenyra when she is named Princess of Dragonstone. From here she builds her Black council, rallies her dragonriders, and launches her campaign to reclaim the Iron Throne. The island's volcanic heat and proximity to dragon nesting grounds make it one of the few places where dragon eggs reliably hatch.
Volcanic island fortress east of King's Landing. Towers shaped like dragons by Valyrian sorcery — stone wings, clawed battlements, fanged archways. Black stone, perpetual mist, the smell of sulfur. The ancestral Targaryen seat before the Conquest.
