Item from House of the Dragon by George R.R. Martin
The Valyrian steel longsword of Targaryen kings, carried by Aegon the Conqueror himself. The sword that gives its name to future pretenders and rebellions.
Blackfyre is a hand-and-a-half bastard sword of Valyrian steel, its blade dark as smoke with a distinctive rippled pattern. Forged in the Freehold of Valyria before the Doom, it was carried by Aegon I Targaryen during the Conquest and became the traditional sword of the Targaryen kings — passed from ruler to heir as a symbol of legitimacy. The sword's name would later be adopted by the Blackfyre pretenders, bastard-descended Targaryens who claimed the throne based partly on their possession of this blade. During the Dance period, Blackfyre represents the authority of the Iron Throne itself — whoever holds it stakes a claim to rule.
Valyrian steel bastard sword. The blade of Aegon the Conqueror, passed down to Targaryen kings. Dark as smoke, rippled steel. The name later given to the Blackfyre pretenders.
